Collect the Urine Sample in a germ-free container handy from the lab or any pharmacy. Allow a small flow of urine to drop and then cautiously hold the cup under urine. Ensure the cup doesn't interact with your skin.

What is Urine Routine & Microscopy?

Urine test among Nigerians is a Routine & Microscopy test carried out:

To identify the infection in the urinary tract especially in the presence of signs and symptoms such as stomach pain, back pain, painful or recurrent urination, blood in the urine

To check for kidney disorders

To assist in the analysis of metabolic disorders such as liver diseases, diabetes, etc.

As a part of a regular health (wellbeing) check-up

As a work-up for arranged surgery

As a regular test in pregnancy to identify the presence of infection or different diseases.


What does Urine Routine & Microscopy  Measure?

Urine Routine and Microscopy test include the three-section assessment of the urine sample.

1. Gross Examination - It entails the visible examination of the urine sample for coloration and appearance.

2. Chemical Examination - It is carried out by using urine dip-stick technique which includes the use of reagent test strips. These test strips are dipped into the urine sample and the colours that emerge are matched with the control for analysis. It is performed to scrutinize the urine  sample for glucose, protein, pH, particular gravity, blood, nitrites, ketones, leukocyte esterase, bilirubin, and urobilinogen.

3. Microscopic Examination - It has to do with the examination of the urine sample below the microscope for casts, crystals, cells, bacteria, and yeast.
